Once clients have chosen an all-inclusive resort, a second question almost always follows: “Since the resort already includes so much, should I book my excursions ahead of time, or just decide once I’m there?” It is a reasonable instinct. Part of the appeal of an all-inclusive stay is not having to plan every detail in advance. But excursions are the one piece of the trip we consistently recommend arranging before you leave home, and there are three specific reasons why.
Why Excursions Are Different From the Rest of Your All-Inclusive Stay
An all-inclusive resort handles the parts of your trip that happen on property: meals, drinks, and the activities built into the resort itself. Excursions are different because they take you off property and put you in the hands of a separate company, often a local tour operator, boat captain, or driver who has no connection to the resort at all. That distinction is exactly why the excursion is worth more planning than a dinner reservation, not less.

Resort tour desks and dockside vendors can be hit or miss. Some are excellent.
